Hitting The Trails….
Im starting a new section to my web site dedicated to those who LOVE the trails!
My goal is to ride as many different trails as I can this spring/summer/fall, then report back with pictures and my opinion on each park.

Yankee Springs
To date Yankee springs is one of my favorite equestrion parks in MI. They have adiquate parking for truck and trailer. The water pump is near by as is the dumping area for manure and soiled hay.
They have three differenttrails. 3, 6 and 9 mile. They are well marked and groomed. Some parts of the 9 mile are more of intermediate trails. On most of the trails, you will climb steep hills, cross streams and have to walk over downed logs and brush. This is a fun trail for people and horses that have a little bit of experience. I would not take a beginner on the six and nine mile trail. They also have over nite camp sites specially designed for the horse person…this is a great place to spend the weekend!
Russ Forest
Russ Forest is located right out side Marcellus on marcellus highway. (click the link for the official website) A nice place with tons of different trails. I would have to say if you are going make sure you don’t have a set time to be back! The trails are not marked very well and you have to just find your way back. I imagine if you’ve been there enough times you will know where your going. My first time there we rode for three or four hours and went in circles many times!
If you can find your way around these trails are great for beginners. Most are flat and straight trails. There are bridges to cross and a small river for your horse to drink or play in.
The parking can get a little crowded and they are not hitching posts, so you’ll have to tie your horse to your trailers. The water pump is a little bit of a walk as well. But for not paying, this is a great place to take a beginner trail rider to get them and their horse use to the sounds and sites of trail riding.
*We went to russ park this spring and had an easier time finding our way around. The trails are marked, you just have to keep a close eye out!

Waterloo
We rode waterloo last saturday and had just a wonderful time. It’s locted in Chelsea, Mi. Unfortunately we only had time to ride the five mile trail. There were plenty of parking and available water pump for fresh water for horses. There was plenty of room between sites so you didn’t feel cramped. The only thing we had issues with was finding it! Don’t use your GPS…it took us over an hour south of the park. Also we weren’t sure where the trails started….we had to find out for ourselves that all the trails start in one place and just sprout off the 14 mile trail. I suggest printing a map off of their website and USE IT! But over all it was a great ride and we plan on going back to hit the 14 mile trail. Id say these trails would be for the serious trail riders…a lot of hill to navigate up and down..logs to walk over and water to cross…I’ll update more after our next ride! If you have any question about my ride at Waterloo just let me know! Holiday24@yahoo.com
